"Beat your thoughts to the mould of your will"- Leman Russ, Primarch of the VIth Legion

Faction Overview

The Space Wolves (SW) are one of the playable Factions in The Horus Heresy: Legions. The Emperor's Executioners are on the Hunt, and they bring the whole Pack to take down the enemy. With a play style focused on "attack and don't stop attacking", troop support, powerful burst damage, and forcing your opponent to trade with you face-to-face being the masters of anti-sorcery, your unrelenting fury will be unleashed. The Space Wolves were the 11th Faction to be reworked, moving their original pool of cards to Legacy.

Strengths:

  • Very fast Faction, with lots of flank troops and ways to give them that trait.
  • Pack and Hunt reward constant aggression, giving you strong buffs or sudden, explosive burst damage.
  • Powerful support or duelist warlords (or both in some cases).
  • Ward forces your opponent (in most cases) to trade with you in direct combat, making it play at your rhythm, or otherwise makes it harder for them to remove your units.
  • A lot of cards that benefit from pre-damaged enemies.
  • Relative cheap troops, or ways to create troops, which can change an empty board to a full filled one, and tons of support for them.

Weakness:

  • Being very troop focused, means that if the enemy can deny your board early or fast, you're gonna fall behind quickly.
  • Very susceptible to heavy control, or high Hp units (because of the need to trade with them).
  • A warded unit can still be "targeted" by board/random damage.
  • Because of how Hunt works (the enemy must remain alive) you won't always get to trigger its effect, and in other cases, the target will still be alive next turn which might spiral against you.

Lore
The Space Wolves, the Rout, the Vlka Fenryka or simply the VIth Legion, were renowned for their anti-authoritarian ways and their embrace of their homeworld Fenris' savage barbarian culture. Charged by the Emperor as his "executioners", they count themself amongst the most famous of the Chapters of the Adeptus Astartes in the wider Imperium. Their sagas (a recount by his kin long after one has fallen, for his name to be spoken in the same breath as the primarch himself) are told from one end of the galaxy to the other. As headstrong as they are fierce, the Space Wolves excel at close-quarters fighting, their warriors vying keenly for glory on the field of battle. The Space Wolves live to fight, and death holds even less fear for them than their counterparts in other Chapters. The Space Wolves are renowned for their ferocity in combat. They favour aggressive tactics, often closing with the enemy in brutal hand-to-hand combat, while being supported by their Rune Priest (or Chapter Librarians) who's psychic powers come from their unique connection to their homeworld’s cultural heritage, harnessing the power of Fenris’ legends and myths. The Space Wolves carry a unique burden in the form of the “Wulfen Curse”. This genetic flaw can cause some Space Wolves to transform into wolf-like, feral entities, driven by instinct and ferocity. Despise this, and the risks associated with it, they do not shun those afflicted by it. Instead, they view the afflicted battle-brothers as the embodiment of their warrior spirit.. Their Primarch, Leman Russ, was found in Fenris (a harsh and unforgiving ice world) and raised by the court of King Thengir, and as he grew, so did his legend and eventually Leman Russ found himself the Wolf-King. When he was reunited with his Legion, the Space Wolves truly became one of the strongest forces of the Imperium. Unfortunately, during the Horus Heresy, the Space Wolves were not present at the Drop Site Massacre, nor knew of the civil war that was brewing. Ordered to retrieve Magnus the Red and return him to Terra after the Primarch's violation of the Council of Nikea by the Emperor, the now-corrupted Horus influenced Russ to change his mission from bringing Magnus to Terra to an all-out assault on his legion. Leman Russ had the Space Wolves Legion attack the Thousand Sons homeworld, Prospero, in an attempt to fulfill their Emperor's charge. Though the planet was devastated in the assault, and Magnus completely broken by the Wolf-King itself, the bulk of the traitor legion escaped and made for the Eye of Terror. After learning of Horus' betrayal and manipulation (and almost being destroyed by a surprise attack from the Alpha Legion), a disheartened and furious Russ sets his course to Terra, and the inevitable showdown with his treacherous brother, Horus.
