Faction Overview
The Raven Guard (RG) are one of the playable Factions in The Horus Heresy: Legions. Control the shadows with the masters of subterfuge. With a play style focused on hiding from the enemy, striking, and delivering powerful burst damage, your enemies won't know what hit them. With the most "guerrilla" tactics of any Legion, the RG bring some of the best combos for denying the enemy board control (including their warlord). The Raven guard were the 7th Faction to be reworked, moving their original pool of cards to Legacy.
Strengths:
- The most amount of stealth troops, and several ways to make them re-enter it.
- Because of the previous point, you can trigger Ambush more than once per turn.
- Great "combo" cards.
- Powerful burst damage in the form of Sentence (which stacks).
- Very fast Faction, with a lot of flankers and unstoppable units.
- Great at controlling the enemy board.
Weakness:
- Most Factions have some type of anti-stealth, which severely lessens what you can do.
- On that regard, a lot of your troops get their value from their Ambush, so loosing it means that they won't give you any advantage.
- Generally weak troops, which makes them very susceptible to board or random damage (both ignores stealth).
- No Ordnance, so you'll have a harder match against vehicles.

Lore | ||
From its earliest days, the warriors of the XIXth Legion were known as cunning and patient hunters, adept at biding their time until the moment to strike was at hand. Known for their cool-headed, even intellectual temperament, their superb infiltration skills and skill at furious, close-quarters engagements, the Raven Guard are the masters of unseen and guerrilla warfare, only engaging in frontal assaults when no other option presents itself. When the Legion was united with its Primarch -- Corvus Corax, the Raven Lord, theirs was a form of warfare exemplifying speed, stealth and precision which was codified into their doctrine, and under the Primarch, the XIXth Legion carved its name in the annals of the Great Crusade. As the tragic histories of the Horus Heresy were recounted, however, the Legion's glories were to be scattered upon the black sands of Isstvan V during the Drop Site Massacre, and the Imperium was almost shorn of one of its greatest champions. Saved that day by Commander Branne Nev, Corax and a handful of his Legion survived (only 3000 of 80000 originally), where he would travel to Terra to speak with the Emperor and seek a way to replenish his numbers. His gene-father would show him the secrets he had been asking for - the gene forging tech used to create the Primarchs by the Emperor himself. With this great knowledge, Corax returned to Deliverance (the airless mining moon of Lycaeus, with Ravenspire as the Raven Guard's fortress-monastery) and start creating a new, enhanced batch of Astartes. These new warriors were faster, stronger, and more intelligent than any of the older warriors of the Legion and were given the moniker "Raptors". Word of this reached the ears of Omegon, twin primarch of the Alpha Legion, whom had been laying dormant on Lycaeus and stirring up a rebellion on the world, manage with his operatives to spike the gene tech with a daemon blood poison, now only able to create deformed monsters. The attempt to rebuild the XIXth Legion's strength was now in ruins. This did not mean, however, that the Raven Guard would renounce taking part in the fight against Horus. Over the following years the Raven Guard would attack convoys, sabotage weapons deliveries, decimate planetary occupation forces, destroy orbital shipping yards, liberate worker camps and generally be a thorn in Horus' side. This became the Ravens Guard's new mode of thinking -- if you could not strike at the enemy directly, hit them where it hurt. |
