The Ranking System is designed both to let anyone view their game progression (Player or Lodge wise) and the main competitive aspect of The Horus Heresy: Legions.
The system is governed by your rating, and will (usually) match you against Players of the same, or closest to, rating as yours.
You'll access Ranked Battles by default (unless switched to Practice) anytime you start a match from "Battle" with your constructed equipped Deck (which can be Standard or Legacy), and get points based on the outcome (but don't need to worry about these points in any other Battle Mode).
These points will count towards your rating, based on a victory or a defeat. While the amount of points varies depending on the opponent rating (against yours), usually a victory will add around 30~60 points, and a defeat will deduct between 20~40 points.
Following the above, you'll gain more and lose less against a higher rating Player, but earn less and lose more when going against a lower rating one.
The Ranking is divided in 6 (or 7, see below) tiers, with each one reached after 500 points are gained, and are set in a "Season" (which concludes at the end of every month). Besides the "bragging rights" a high level of rating gives you, you'll earn a reward Crate based on the tier you are when a season ends (starting at 500 rating, and if you played at least 1 match during the season), and with a better quality depending on if you are, or how close, to the "Terra" tier.
In The Leaderboard, the top 50 Players will receive even better rewards, and the top 10 ones will get the best Crates, plus unique Cosmetics.
Ranking Tiers[]
Each tier of the ranking can be easily identified by the "Planet" image that appear in the game main HUD, and your rating dictates when you reach (or are remove) from any.

The tiers are:
- 0-499 rating: Isstvan III
- 500-999 rating: Isstvan V
- 1000-1499 rating: Calth
- 1500-1999 rating: Prospero
- 2000-2499: Mars
- 2500 or higher rating: Terra
As you can see, there are 6 base tiers, but Terra will usually be divided in what is called "Low Terra" and "High Terra" by the community (and even the game devs). Low Terra is the rating of 2500 to 3800 points, and High Terra is above 3800 points (in the Meta Report you can see this division more clearly).
Bots, when fighting against, will have "better" cards and more "well-constructed" Decks the higher you are in the Ranking, as to "help" you maintain the high-level play you'll need for such. Nevertheless, they will still behave the same in any tier and be easily manipulable like always (see "Bots" for more info).
By "common" logic, the higher the rating the "better" the Player is. However, while it might be hard getting to higher tiers when starting out, any Player can tell of "the time they defeated a Player of 2 tiers above them" (and variations of this), meaning that only the amount of cards collected (or how the Decks are constructed), and the skill one possess, will determinate how well a match will go (you can see this happening in Events Battle regularly). Only perseverance, consistent playtime, and learning from pass mistakes, will tell how good of a Player you are, so don't fret over ratings too much (unless wanting the reward Crates, but with the stated you'll reach higher tiers in no time). |
Season End and Legendary Points[]
When a season ends, Players above 2500 rating will reset back their points to 2500 (so you'll never "leave" the Terra tier in this manner, only your position in the Leaderboard), while all other Players will keep their rank and points intact.
Any surplus of those points lost, will be added to your "Legendary Points". These points can be viewed from the Player Menu, and don't offer any reward (beside bragging on how much high your rating has been).
Leaderboard[]
By clicking on the Ranking icon (top of the game main HUD) you can see which Players and Lodges are at the top of Leaderboard (only the top 50) of the season.
With the buttons on the right you can change between Top Players, Top Lodges, and Top Legacy Players of the current season, while the buttons on the left will show you the same but of the previous season.
