The Horus Heresy: Legions Wiki

The Mentor System is designed to help new Players (Recruit) gain rewards, extra experience and Gems, through the assist of older Players (Mentor) in The Horus Heresy: Legions.

Any Player at level 25 or above is eligible to become a Mentor, and only Players below level 25 can become Recruits. Each Mentor can have up to three Recruits at a time.

Mentors, through the Mentor Chat, will be able to talk with all Recruits (and they with each other), view their progression and choose to give them Gems (up to 1,000 max). All Players in this Chat, can share Deck builds and match replays.

To become a Mentor, you can click in any Player Avatar and send an offer for mentoring (must be below level 25, and without one already), or send the offer by clicking in the "looking for Mentor" option in the Global Chat. As stated, one can only have three Recruits max at any given time, but there's no limit to how many Players a Mentor can send an offer to.

To gain a Mentor, a Recruit can click in any Player Avatar and ask for mentorship (must be above level 25, and without the max Recruits reached), or (in the Mentor Chat) send a "looking for Mentor" request in the Global Chat. Up to five mentorship requests can be active at a time (you can choose one or remove it to make space for another), and while a Player can only have 1 Mentor in any given moment, there's no limit to how many ones it becomes a Recruit for (if you lose it, you can receive a mentorship over and over, till reaching level 25).

When a Recruit reaches certain milestones, the Mentor earns a reward. When they reach level 25, they ‘graduate’ and can go on to become Mentors, while their Mentor can take on a new Recruit.

The milestones for Recruits are:

  • Unlock the epic boss in a single-player campaign.
  • Win 5 event games in a single event run.
  • Gain a ranked game above 1,000 rating.
  • Login 7 consecutive days.
  • Reach level 25.

The only way (currently) to remove a Mentor or a Recruit (for whatever reason one might have), is if the other Player hasn't been active in the game for 7 days, and an option to do so will appear in the Mentor Chat.

Perks[]

Recruits will receive a 20% experience boost while under a Mentor. On the other hand, Mentors will receive a gold reward whenever one of their Recruits completes a milestone (around 30 Gold each).

As an encouragement, Mentors can make gifts of 100 gems to a Recruit, up to a maximum of 1,000 gems over the lifetime of each Recruit.

When a Recruit reaches level 25, with all milestones completed, and graduate, both the Recruit and Mentor will receive a reward Crate.

Note to Players[]

The Mentor System can be a fantastical way to help new Players, as that's the main focus of it, so being "prepare" to become a Mentor is fundamental, and it shouldn't be taken it lightly. A Player using a secondary account might not care that much if his Mentor isn't active or if it gives Gems, but a new Player, still learning about the game and exited to build their collection, will. Some Players might "abuse" this system (sometimes called toxic Mentors or lurker Mentors) and only use their Recruit as a semi-"Gold farm", ensuing that new Player to become dissatisfied (or even anger) about not getting the help that the system was aiming to give them. Adding to the fact that one cannot remove their Mentor unless inactive (which can be impossible in some cases), and the fact that there's a limit of time of sorts for being a Recruit, new Players suffer massively this type of behavior. On the other hand, Mentors with inactive Recruits, or ones that received Gems and aren't completing any milestone or even playing, will also suffer in this manner, as they will be wasting time with some people when they could be helping other that actually need it. In other words:

Mentors:

  • BE ACTIVE.
  • Answer doubts, questions and misinformation your Recruit might have. You don't need to know every aspect of the game, but you should know enough at least to help with basic subjects.
  • Give Gems (if you aren't in a place where you can do such, then wait till you can). If you feel like it will be a waste to do so (your Recruit isn't very active), then put your own "milestones", or tracking system (only give 100 a day if they log in, give 200 when a milestone is completed, give half when starting and the other half when about to graduate, etc.), guaranteeing that your Recruit is playing as intended, and your effort valued.

Recruits:

  • BE ACTIVE.
  • Ask for help, to a point. Your Mentor isn't an encyclopedia of the game, so if they don't know about something, ask other Players or search it out online.
  • Ask for Gems. Perhaps your Mentor didn't notice it, so asking for it will make remember, or discuss how much can it give to you at a time. Gems can be a "relative" hard Currency to get, so value the fact that someone is gifting them to you.
  • Play the game. While an understatement, don't aiming for at least the milestones you have, will make your Mentor doubtful of giving you Gems.

Both Players need to "care" about the other to maximize the effectiveness of the system. So, like everything in life, be a good person, and help your fellow Players become better as a result.

Notes[]

By "technicality", a Player might be of a level higher than 25 and still be a Recruit. This is for the fact that the Mentor or Recruit need to click the "Graduate" button after reaching it. While you won't get the experience boost anymore, at least it leaves you time to complete any milestone you might have miss.

If your Mentor/Recruit is only active in a way that don't help you (only logs in the game, but don't do anything), then try to reach the game Support (this LINK), and tell them about your problem (while not certain, they might remove that Player for you).
