"Make ready for the onslaught"- Ferrus Manus, Primarch of the Xth. Legion

Faction Overview

The Iron Warrior (IW) are one of the playable Factions in The Horus Heresy: Legions. Prideful to their core, symbolized in their unique trait, the IH shows their enemy that even when damaged, and embracing it, they are a menace. Their play style focuses on vehicles, heavy damage, and buffing your troops with Augmetics, the faction unique Special card. True to their Lore, unrelenting assault is your game. The Iron Hands were the 5th Faction to be reworked, moving their original pool of cards to Legacy.

Strengths:

  • Strong and bulky troops, with many ways to make them stronger.
  • Pride, besides giving you good effects, can be triggered with Augmetics, which makes an excellent symbiotic play style with both abilities.
  • A lot of support for your vehicles, and ways to create more of them.

Weakness:

  • A very slow Faction, as you won't make the most of your troops till the next turn they're played.
  • On that regard, one could say that they have a "behind the enemy" type of play. With your troops needing to be damaged, and thus weakened, a lot of enemies can take advantage of it, and others outright thrive on it (Space Wolves, Sisters of Silence, etc.).
  • Not many ways of "choosing" which Augmetics you'll get, so even if they're all good, you won't always get the best one for the specific solution.
  • One of the Faction's with the least amount of Traits/Effects available, which gives you smaller variations in your play style.
  • Most of your troops are Vehicles, which are vulnerable to Ordnance (a very common Effect).

Lore
The Iron Hands were born as the Xth Legion of Space Marines. Renowned for their pride, cold-hearted brutality and remorselessness in battle, the Iron Hands were among the most powerful and famed Space Marine Legions of the Great Crusade, and notable for their heavy use of bionics and their reverence for all things mechanical. Their Primarch was Ferrus Manus, a bellicose and uncompromising warlord and peerless weapon-smith, from whom the Xth Legion took their name and whose command was to them inviolatable law. Ferrus had landed on Medusa (a barren, harsh world nevertheless in possession of sophisticated and advanced technology), where the infant Primarch had already gained great fame –where he was known as the Gorgon– when he slew the great wyrm Asirnoth, a mechanical hybrid beast made of quicksilver. This act had caused the metal of Asirnoth to fuse to Manus’ hands, granting him his name. The Gorgon was an uncompromising master, and his warriors fought ever hard to gain just a scrap of his approval. Weakness could not be tolerated. At the Drop Site Massacre, and after Fulgrim (Ferrus most beloved brother) try to sway him into joining Horus side, the Iron Hands led the attack, with Ferrus at the very tip of the spear. He pushed through the Emperor’s Children forces, finally confronting Fulgrim in singled combat, but was overcame at the end and the traitor Primarch beheaded him in front of his horrified Legion. The Iron Hands were undone by their own hubris and the blade of the Traitor both, and paid a heavy price in the brutal slaying of their Primarch and the near-crippling of their strength. Though left as one of the "Shattered Legions," the cold fury of the Iron Hands' bitter vengeance would afterwards be writ across the stars.
